Information We Collect
Personal Information
- Email address: Collected when you sign up via Google OAuth or magic link
- Username: Chosen by you during account creation (3-15 characters)
- Account creation date: Automatically recorded
User-Generated Content
- Charging spots: Name, description, location (GPS coordinates), floor level
- Comments: Text content (1-500 characters) on charging spots
- Photos: Images uploaded to charging spots (JPEG/PNG/WebP, max 5MB)
- Votes: Upvotes and downvotes on charging spots
Technical Information
- GPS location: Only when you explicitly grant permission and use location features (e.g., "Center on my location", adding spots)
- Browser/device information: For compatibility and debugging purposes
- Usage analytics: Anonymous aggregated data about app usage
How We Use Your Information
- Provide and maintain the ChargeMyRide service
- Display charging spots, comments, and photos on the map
- Calculate verification scores and reputation
- Send you authentication links (magic link sign-in)
- Communicate important service updates
- Detect and prevent spam or abuse
- Improve app features based on usage patterns
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
Your information is shared only in these limited circumstances:
- Public display: Your username, charging spots, comments, and photos are publicly visible to all app users
- Service providers: Supabase (database/auth), Mapbox (maps), Vercel (hosting) - all GDPR-compliant
- Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect rights and safety
Data Retention
- Active accounts: Stored indefinitely while your account is active
- Charging spots: Automatically expire after 90 days of no interaction (votes, comments)
- Deleted accounts: Personal data deleted immediately; content anonymized (see Account Deletion)
Your Rights (GDPR)
Under European data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data
- Erasure: Delete your account via Settings → Delete Account
- Restriction: Limit how we use your data
- Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection: Object to certain data processing

Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account. When you delete your account:
- Your profile, email, and personal settings are permanently deleted
- All your uploaded images are removed from our servers
- Your votes and activity history are deleted
- Your charging spots, comments, and remaining image metadata are anonymized (shown as "Anonymous")
This preserves community value while respecting your right to be forgotten.
Cookies and Tracking
ChargeMyRide uses minimal cookies and local storage:
- Authentication: Session tokens stored securely in your browser
- Preferences: Map position, dismissed notifications (stored locally)
- Analytics: No third-party tracking (Google Analytics, Facebook, etc.)
Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication (Supabase Auth), and row-level security (RLS) policies in our database. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
ChargeMyRide is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of ChargeMyRide after changes constitutes acceptance.
